TideTutor

TideTutor terms of use

Last updated 18 October 2026.

These terms apply to the TideTutor app, made by The Protagonist Group Ltd ("we"). They sit alongside the store's own terms: Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement (https://www.apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula/) if you got the app from the App Store, or the Google Play Terms of Service if you got it from Google Play. Where these terms and the store's terms disagree, the store's terms apply.

1. Training only, not for navigation

TideTutor is a practice tool for learning tidal calculations. It must never be used for real navigation or passage planning. Every port, place, chart, tide table and tidal figure in the app is invented for practice. Any similarity to real places is coincidental. Always use official, up-to-date charts and tidal data, and your own judgement, at sea.

2. Not RYA material

TideTutor is independent. It is not RYA material and is not produced, approved or endorsed by the Royal Yachting Association or any other training body. Mentions of courses such as Day Skipper describe what students study, nothing more. Using TideTutor doesn't count towards any qualification.

3. Accuracy

We work hard to make every question and worked solution correct, but we can't promise the app is free of errors. If you think an answer is wrong, please tell us at support@tidetutor.com with the question code shown under the question, and we'll check it.

4. Free questions and Full Access

You can try a small number of questions in each topic free of charge. TideTutor Full Access is a one-off in-app purchase (currently £29.99 in the UK; the store shows your local price) that unlocks every topic, unlimited questions and revision mode. It is not a subscription and doesn't renew.

Purchases are processed by Apple or Google, under their terms. Refunds are handled by them: on Apple devices at https://reportaproblem.apple.com, and on Google Play through your Google Play order history. This doesn't affect your legal rights as a consumer.

You can restore Full Access on other devices signed in to the same Apple ID or Google account using Restore purchases in the app's settings. Where the store supports Family Sharing and it's turned on, family members may also be able to use it.

5. Launch emails

Signing up on our website to hear when TideTutor launches is free and optional, and doesn't commit you to buying anything. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email. Our privacy policy explains how we handle your email address.

6. Your licence

We give you a personal, non-transferable licence to use TideTutor on devices you own or control, as allowed by the store's terms. Please don't copy, resell, reverse-engineer or redistribute the app or its content, except as the law allows.

7. Changes and availability

We may update the app to fix problems, improve questions or add features. We'll try to keep the app available, but we can't promise it will always be available or work on every device or operating system version.

8. Our responsibility to you

Nothing in these terms limits our liability where the law doesn't allow us to, including for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud. Your statutory rights as a consumer are not affected.

Because TideTutor is a training aid and not for navigation (section 1), we aren't responsible for any loss or damage resulting from using it for navigation or for any purpose other than practice. Otherwise, if we break these terms, we're responsible only for loss that was a foreseeable result of that, and our total liability is limited to the amount you paid for the app.

9. Law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live elsewhere in the UK or in the EU, you may also be able to bring proceedings where you live, and you keep the protections of your local consumer law.
